Through the forest, behind the trees (experimental work)
2020
“I was in a dark forest, a dark pine forest in Wytham Woods. And it started to rain. Heavily. I had my camera with me, and the flash was on, and I took some pictures and later when I reviewed the pictures I was really surprised to see what the flash had done to the raindrops. It had produced some beautiful spheres. Some seemed to have dark centres, and others seemed to be like crescents.
Later in the year I went into Burnwood Forest in a summer’s evening and I imagined a sphere moving through the forest behind the trees, out into the light and back towards me. And when I came back to the studio I put the sphere into a stop motion film.”
